Dexa Scan

Osteoporosis develops slowly and silently, and often there are no symptoms. Those with osteoporosis often don’t realize they have low bone density until they experience a fracture, usually of the wrist, hip or spine. Physicians can diagnose osteoporosis and osteopenia before a fracture occurs with a series of test, including a DEXA bone density scan.

This painless, noninvasive screening takes only 15-30 minutes and the amount of ionizing radiation used is very small- approximately one-tenth that dose received from a chest x-ray.
